| Number 2 and number 7 injectors have a common problem with wire harness failure. Looking at the motor from the front, that would be the first injector on the drivers side nearest the radiator and the furthest injector on the passenger side next to the firewall. When this failure happens, you truck will run like crap. And may or may not through a code. It is not subtle...you will know it when it happens, and it happens frequently. So, if your D-max falls on its face, and sounds like a 12 valve Cummins, here is a fix that might save you a trip to the dealer. Get a SHARP ice pick, awl, or 12 volt test probe.....anything that is very sharp. Remove the injector connector from the injector, and stab the connector through from one side. This will create a dimple and keep the connector in contact with the injector tabs. A bit of di-electric grease is also recommended. Re-install the connector on the injector, and you should be good to go. If this is does not work, check your injector harness where it crosses your alternator bracket. It is zip-tied . Cut that tie off and you can see where the vibration is eating into the harness and grounding out your injectors. Once you find the area, you can liquid tape the area of the exposed wire, and cover it with a piece of heater hose that has been split up one side to protect it from the alternator bracket. Zip-tie, and you are done. Here is the injector connector with +'s marking the areas that need to be icepicked. RickDLance is the guy credited with the picture. If the truck sets a code, it will be P0207 and P0202...number 7 and number 2. | |
